Harlow Hospital Radio have been broadcasting to the patients and staff of Princess Alexandra Hospital since 1970.
Originally started as a way to transmit the weekly hospital church service to the patients, the station soon grew and started playing records and presenting shows.
The station has had many changes over the years, from record players and cart machines, to tapes then CD’s and mini discs we have always managed to use technology to bring you the music you want, when you want it.
We now use the Myriad playout system meaning we are able to broadcast 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and with over 5000 tracks on our database we really have got something for everyone.
Apart from broadcasting we take part in numerous events, both in the hospital and around areas local to the hospital. We have had a float on the Harlow carnival, run charity quiz nights, provided the music and compering for hospital fetes, put on singing competitions and variety shows, and once a year we record a pantomime (oh yes we do) that is broadcast over the Christmas period.
We are members of the Hospital Broadcasting Association, and are proud to have received a few trophies at their annual awards ceremony that honours the best in hospital broadcasting across the U.K.
We are always looking for new members. This isn’t just for presenters, we have members who collect requests, help out with fund raising and support us in outside events. So if you would like to become a member please fill in our contact form as we would love to hear from you.
